Last summer, I got on a big popsicle kick, making all kinds of, mostly boozy, ice pops (here, here, here, here, and here). So far this summer, I am in a smoothie-making mood. There are so many flavors I want to make and share with you, but the first one I want to feature is one of my absolute favorites – the Chocolate, Peanut Butter, and Banana Smoothie.
These days, I make a healthier version with chocolate-flavored soy milk, but in the past, I made this with whole milk, homemade chocolate syrup, and vanilla ice cream, in addition to the bananas and peanut butter to a more “shake-like” treat. While that’s a really delicious version that I still really want every once in a while, it is also very high in calories. I had to find a good, lower-calorie alternative so that I could make it more often. I make sure to have a zip-top bag full of peeled and sliced bananas in my freezer so I can make this smoothie, even on a whim.
This lighter version is still very creamy, satisfying and tasty, full of the wonderful combination of flavors from the chocolate, peanut butter, and banana. For even more chocolate-y flavor, drizzle some chocolate syrup on the glass before pouring the smoothie.
Chocolate, Peanut Butter, and Banana Smoothie
Yields 2 servings
Ingredients:
1 cup chocolate-flavored soy milk
2 frozen bananas
3 tablespoons peanut butter, or more, to taste
1 teaspoon almond extract
1 cup of ice cubes
chocolate syrup, either homemade or store-bought, to drizzle
Method:
Add all ingredients except the chocolate syrup, in a blender and blend until smooth. Drizzle chocolate syrup on the inside of the glass before pouring in the smoothie.

This looks delicious! perfect for a hot summer day.
Be careful not to slurp it too fast or you’ll get that dreaded brain freeze!

Yum, this sounds so decadent for a smoothie! And I love your old fashioned looking glass, where did you get it?
Hi, Stephanie! I got the old-fashioned soda fountain glass at Crate and Barrel. $3.95/each.

I could drink this every day and never grow tired of it!
Totally agree! I’ve had one each of the last three days… So much for decreasing my calorie intake.
